Following the success of 2018 LP ‘Redwine & Backwoods’, Deucestacks is back with ‘Jams’, a stunningly atmospheric opus, which only confirms the Los Angeles emcee as one to watch. The five track EP starts with nod to meta in track ‘Intro’, “what’s the point introduction?”, before collaborating with Richard Wright for second track ‘We Know’, setting the chilled tone and all wrapped up with exquisitely chosen rhyme patterns, samples and shuffling beats. The syncopation on ‘Smoke Break’ is stand out, with lyrics “reality sets me straight” representative of an artist willing to tell stories on their own terms. Reverse reverb on ‘Twin Flame’ is a testament to the incredibly slick production throughout the EP, before the psychedelic guitars of ‘Flaws N’ All’ bring this masterpiece to a close. Deucestacks’ strength is in his versatility; ‘Jams’ conjures a mix of intimacy and nostalgia that will resonate for years to come.
