‘Jams Three’ is the third installment from LA-based emcee Deucestacks, with a duality of sounds heading for a different direction that works incredibly well as a coherent piece. Like Jekyll and Hyde, earlier tracks are brighter before descending into darkness for the latter half. ‘Pay Me’ has a crowd friendly vibe, with frequent collaborator Richard Wright providing fly vocals. Agitated beats dance along like ticker tape in the background before moving swiftly into ‘Money Heist’, which is both playful and full of attitude. A lightness purveys into ‘Friendly Fire’, opening like an old romantic ballad before dropping deep, deep down in something altogether darker. The apocalyptic feel on ‘No Sequel’ pounds along urgently, even referencing Khia’s ‘Lick My Neck, My Back’ before falling into ‘Where I Be’, with a fat low thud and cuttingly sharp lyrics. ‘Jams Three’ is another EP that doesn’t disappoint and demonstrates that Deucestacks is operating at the top of his game.
